It may be that the post-Cretaceous survival of small mammals like Didelphodon had much to do with their living in burrows. Safe from the attentions of the carnivorous dinosaurs, these deep underground refuges may also have provided protection from the catastrophic event which brought about the demise of the dinosaurs.
